Infinity: Example Fusilier Fireteams for Svalarheima Winter Force

Example SWF Fusilier Fireteams

After looking at Fusilier Fireteam Core options for the Svalarheima Winter Force in our article yesterday, it seemed like a good idea to give some examples of the kinds of combinations which SWF offers for Fusiliers.

Generally speaking, Fireteam Core builds tend to fall into one of three different categories:
  1. Firebase - Long range firepower with little intention of much re-positioning during the game.
  2. Specialist Delivery - Firepower and Specialist team to fight into position and accomplish objectives.
  3. Combat Team - Dedicated offensive unit maximizing firepower for engaging and destroying at all ranges while advancing.
So we'll take a look at how you could go about building for each of these with the Fusilier Core and associated options in Svalarheima. Of course, it goes without saying that Fusiliers favour the Firebase model, but we'll look at what you can do for each!

This Fireteam is dedicated to long range firepower of the ARO variety, specifically offering a cheap backup package for the Knight of Justice. You would almost certainly want to put a Trauma Doc and/or their PalBot within range of the Knight of Justice (but outside of template range of them) so you can pick them back up.

As you are looking for cheap bodies it makes sense to also get the Lt into this grouping, as they are going to have some buddies to hide behind. Missing out on at least one Specialist seems like a mistake however, so we've got the Forward Observer to act as an ARO on a longer approach (but not for standing up looking over the table as the KoJ will be) and allow the team to push a button if needs be.

You'd likely want to pack a Fusilier Hacker as a support piece nearby, for this and other iterations on the theme, who you can include in the Fireteam if Sixth Sense backed Hacking is going to be a useful tool. You can also use them as a "sixth man" to come into the team if there is a casualty.

Of course that "sixth man" could also be an ORC with a HMG, or you could build this Fireteam as its own entity. Either way the ORC HMG makes a high quality ranged active turn piece, just as the Knight of Justice is a solid reactive choice.

Equally the ORC Feuerbach fits here, as it can slot into ARO duty alongside the Knight of Justice with Missile Launcher and also offers active turn firepower. It's not going to be often that you want to try and do all three (5.5 SWC in one place probably being too much even for a force with decent SWC free combat options) 'though!

It's likely that there are better choices available if you want to get Specialists up the table in a Fireteam, with Svlarheima Winter Force, both the Nisse Core and the Vargar offering different options. But Fusiliers do offer cheap specialists and Agnes!

This Fireteam covers a very wide range of Classified Objectives, making it a solid option for those Scenarios where that kind of coverage wins matches. They are all being kept relatively safe behind top tier firepower and Fireteam bonuses too! Of course this choice does have limited long range firepower and likely leans on Nisse HMG or other solo strike pieces to eliminate strong ARO pieces before it advances.

If you want your team to be able to engage at all ranges with BS firepower then this package still gives the same range of specialists while ALSO bringing +3 range bands from 32" on down (and that precious +6 if you get your Infirmarer into "8 for a delicious target of 22 out of cover).

Obviously you can also shave a few points off here, or simply swap out the Paramedic for a FO instead. Cutting the Hacker entirely removes a vulnerability, but at the cost of reducing the overall utility of the team fairly significantly.

Combat Team Fusiliers

This is a very interesting way to build a Fusiliers team, I'm not usually thinking about moving them up the table as an offensive unit (not that I haven't done it plenty of times when necessary) and SWF has some solid options for when you actually want to do it.

Thanks to Quinn and the Paramedic it's not giving up much on the previous builds in terms of "mission capacity", but isn't so focused there and instead (thanks to Gunnar) becomes deadlier in Melee by a significant margin.

Of course, SWF has no lack of strong solo long range combat pieces, so you don't necessarily need to build the capability which a Nisse HMG covers quite nicely into your Fireteam. Instead it can be much more close range oriented.

Both of these teams are going to be very effective in bringing a Light Grenade Launcher upfield to deal with really difficult targets. But given their range of combat abilities there's not much which they aren't simply going to be able to wipe off the table with sheer firepower in any case.

So there are a few ideas on how you can build a Fusilier Fireteam for different purposes in the Svalarheima Winter Force.

Is there anything you think we've overlooked?

How are you building your SWF Fusilier Fireteam Core?
